Lenny’s Sub Shop Carves Out Niche in Southwest

January 30th, 2008 - Dallas, Texas. There’s a lot of buzz these days about a new sub shop called Lenny’s. Not that sub shops are anything new to the restaurant scene, but this best in class concept and franchised operation seems to have everyone talking as more sub sandwich lovers get exposed to the brand. Like the outgoing and entrepreneurial spirit of its founder, Len Moore, this is one sub sandwich with a lot of personality. Lenny’s claim to fame is More Food, More Taste, More Personality ™. Everyone at Lenny’s is treated like a special guest in a five star restaurant although the overall concept is simple – something very appealing to new franchisees. The entire focus of the brand is on taste and personality – unlike the health-related approach taken by competitors like Subway. How a sub shop became as successful as it did in an already crowded category is nothing short of intriguing. And, with talk by consumers about service having decreased in the QSR industry, it’s nice to know there’s still a place that treats their guests like the kings and queens they want to be. Lenny’s expansion into the Southwest from its legendary status in its hometown of Memphis, Tennessee has been a highly profitable endeavor for its Franchisee, Texas Sandwich Investors L.L.C. who decided Dallas would appreciate the supersized taste in the “everything’s bigger in Texas” city. Since that time, TSI has opened 7 locations in Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Allen, Carrollton, and Farmers Branch, and Las Colinas, and will open several more within the next 6 months. The Retail Connection L.P. runs the entire real estate platform for Dallas – Fort Worth. “It’s been a long time since I worked on a brand with this much growth potential,” stated Jeremy Zidell, a broker with The Retail Connection who arranged the leases for all of the DFW locations. “Their overall philosophical approach to running the business combined with their consistently outstanding product, rivals anyone else in this category including other successful concepts such as Potbelly’s, Jersey Mike’s, Which Wich and others. It is a lot of fun representing a concept and its owners who have this much enthusiasm about their brand,” stated Zidell. The Retail Connection provides strategic planning, tenant representation, project leasing, general brokerage, surplus property dispositions, national advisory services, as well as acquisition, development and merchant banking services. The Retail Connection | Connected Development Services collaborates with clients as partners to create projects designed to meet their objectives. By leveraging the synergy of the organization’s brokerage, advisory and investment services platforms, The Retail Connection is able to extend the reach of each client’s expansion programs.
