David Berndt, the Dallas-based developer behind several retail centers in San Antonio, has joined The Retail Connection, a Dallas-based real estate firm with plans to build up its own development platform. Berndt has joined the firm as a development partner of Connected Development Services — the development-services arm of The Retail Connection. He will lead the firm’s development platform in Central and South Texas. Berndt, who was previously withDavid BerndtInterests Inc. — the name sake firm he founded in 1998 — has developed several local shopping centers, including Westover Marketplace, Village at Stone Oak and Woodlake Crossing.

“I have had great success collaborating with The Retail Connection on several important retail projects, and it was a natural fit to combine our collective talent and experience to expand The Retail Connection’s development footprint,” Berndt says. Berndt is one of the latest additions to The Retail Connection.

This past November, the company hired long-time local retail broker Nick Altomare as an executive vice president in its San Antonio office. The additions of Berndt and Altomare are part of The Retail Connection’s larger plans to expand its brokerage and development platforms inCentral and South Texas.

“Central and South Texas continue to be very strong markets for our business,” says Steve Lieberman, CEO of The Retail Connection. David and his team will enable us to measurably extend the reach of our client’s real estate expansion programs and we are very excited about our opportunities ahead.”
